In Jablanica, the 83rd anniversary of the Battle for the Wounded on the Neretva was commemorated—one of the most significant historical events symbolizing humanity and solidarity.
The commemoration began on 24 April at the Museum “Battle for the Wounded on the Neretva”, where the play “Comrade Gojko” was performed, followed by a panel discussion titled “Personal Stories of Our Ancestors from the Anti-Fascist Struggle as Intangible Cultural Heritage”.
The program continued on 25 April in the morning with the laying of flowers at Makljen for delegations arriving from the direction of Gornji Vakuf, after which guests proceeded to Jablanica. At 11:00 a.m., an exhibition by students of the painting school of the “Neretva Art” Association was opened, followed by one of the most striking moments of the event—the release of 83 carnations into the Neretva River in memory of the anniversary of the Battle for the Wounded.
The central part of the program took place at 12:00 p.m., when numerous delegations from Bosnia and Herzegovina and the region laid flowers at the memorial site, paying tribute to all the victims. This was followed by a ceremonial academy, which began with the national anthem of Bosnia and Herzegovina. Addresses were delivered by the Mayor of Jablanica, Emir Muratović, the President of SABNOR BiH, Sead Đulić, as well as representatives of anti-fascist organizations from the region.
The program continued with cultural and artistic performances, after which this year’s official commemoration came to an end. A special atmosphere was created by numerous local residents of Jablanica, who presented their products as part of the event, giving the occasion an additional social and tourism dimension. A large number of visitors took the opportunity to attend the program and enjoy the various activities available in Jablanica that day.
